The importance of Senior pictures
Senior year marks a significant milestone in every student's life—a time to celebrate achievements, friendships, and the journey leading up to this momentous occasion. As seniors prepare to bid farewell to their high school days, capturing memories with senior pictures becomes a cherished tradition. In the vibrant city of Phoenix, Arizona, where the desert landscape meets urban splendor, one senior embarks on a unique experience, blending his love for space with the picturesque backdrop of the desert sunsets at Superstition Mountains. The Senior himself
Jonathon, a bright and ambitious senior, has always been captivated by the mysteries of the universe. His fascination with space exploration, celestial bodies, and the endless expanse beyond Earth's atmosphere fuels his dreams of pursuing a career with NASA. With his graduation on the horizon, Jonathon sought to commemorate his high school journey with a senior photoshoot that reflects his passion for the cosmos.
Searching for a photographer in Phoenix
Jonathon and his parents had a clear vision for what he wanted out of his senior pictures. Pictures that would embody who he is and serve to show who he will become. They scoured the internet looking for the right senior photographer that wouldn't just deliver jaw dropping images but, more importantly, images that reflect these things. After speaking with me and hearing his story, I pitched what I had in mind and they fell in love with it. We kept in touch after scheduling the photoshoot, bouncing ideas off of each other until the day of the shoot, ensuring the most perfect results.
Superstition Mountains
How did we decide on Superstition Mountains as the location for this senior photoshoot? One look at this beautiful location, it would be hard to not swipe right, choosing this location. That sentiment could go with any type of photo session, no matter the individual. We didn't choose it just for the one size fits all scenery though, it fit right into what I had in mind, when I set out to bring Jonathon's love of space into the mix. Though it's still very much part of the Phoenix Metropolitan area, there are still stars galore when that sun goes down, an experience I wanted to capture Jonathan witnessing.
Day of our Senior Photoshoot
Leading up to our photoshoot, we had to postpone on two different occasions due to weather. Raining, super cloudy, gloomy looking, etc. All of these things could result in amazing senior photographs if it's the vibe you're looking for but in this case it didn't fit. The wait was more than worth it, as we were presented with some of the most extraordinary conditions I've ever had the opportunity of working in. The light we had on this day was gorgeous. The cloud formations were thick while not being overbearing. The sunset set fire to the sky and when the sun was completely set, we got some stars lighting up the sky and, with it, was the smile on Jonathon's face.
Staring up at the sky, he named off constellations to me as I fired away. Exposing him and the night sky in one photo was no easy task. After our session, I showed him some Milky Way photos I have taken over the years and told him how I could composite them into his photos, giving them a little boost. He was ecstatic and couldn't wait to see the finished product. I also couldn't wait to edit them so I didn't. I started editing them as soon as I got home, loving each picture more than the last. They just got better and better.
